Saban Brands to Launch Vortexx on The CW

Brand-New National Kids Television Programming Block will deliver high-impact action, exciting adventure and laugh-out-loud comedy, premiering on TVs everywhere, Saturday, Aug. 25
LOS ANGELES (July 12, 2012) – Saban Brands wants kids everywhere to step into Vortexx, a power-packed broadcast television and online destination for action, adventure and comedy entertainment that was unveiled today. Vortexx brings all new energy to Saturday morning television with its new five-hour programming block on The CW Television Network. Vortexx will launch with online (www.myvortexx.com coming soon) and mobile offerings making Vortexx available to kids whenever and wherever they are. The television premiere of Vortexx on The CW Television Network will be Saturday, August 25.
“Vortexx will be an entirely new platform for action-adventure fans. It will give them more of what they want on TV and online than any other source,” said Elie Dekel, President, Saban Brands. “Vortexx will be the new maverick in kids entertainment – delivering a high-energy entertainment destination that delivers action and comedy unlike any other.”
Vortexx will be a multi-platform entertainment brand destination that engages kids through well-established properties, and provides them with a single source for entertaining content, activities and more. The nationally-broadcast channel will be anchored by key franchises such as Power Rangers and Yu-Gi-Oh!, in addition to other marquee, soon-to-be-announced action/adventure and comedy shows. The brand-new programming block will air on all CW affiliated stations nationwide, Saturday mornings from 7 a.m. to noon.
“Vortexx will have the shows that our audience knows and loves, with a mix that is very different from anything else – a programming lineup that features electrifying moments of action and humor, and stories that feature characters that are larger than life, but also very relatable,” said Dekel. “And when you consider the fact that Vortexx will be so much more than a broadcast outlet – delivering what kids want online and on mobile 24/7/365 – this new entertainment venue represents something very exciting for brands and advertisers interested in reaching this audience across 114 million households on-air, and more online and on mobile.”
The announcement of Vortexx, which took place today at San Diego Comic-Con International, continues Saban Brands’ dramatic growth since reacquiring the Power Rangers property in 2010. About to celebrate its 20th season, Power Rangers is the brainchild of Haim Saban.

No Pink Spandex at SpringFestNY 2012

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting any Power Ranger-y events at SpringFestNY 2012. It’s a free, anime convention ran by the anime club at Polytechnic Institute of NYU in Brooklyn, NY. No offense, I had low expectations. I was somewhat surprised.

The morning was a bit slow. There were attendees there, but it’s as if everyone wasn’t thinking about showing up until noon. For a one-day convention on a Saturday, that surprised me. But then I remembered that I’m in New York. We get up when we feel like it!
So for a Power Ranger fan, the start of the day was really dry. Why did I go again? Geek cons are a rare breed in New York City. Everyone thinks we’re the hub for everything and anything, but geek conventions are slim. I’m not talking about your occasional club here or meetup there. I’m talking straight-up convention. So if there’s are con here, I try to support them as much as possible. Unfortunately for me, my support was running low midway until my friend and companion for the weekend Shana started talking to people. Then I talked to people. And that’s when it clicked.
We both had a lot of postcards to promote No Pink Spandex Live 2012 (with guest Jason David Frank), so that became the ice-breaker. There are a lot of Power Ranger fans. A lot. One girl literally squealed with joy when we mentioned NPS Live to her. We had another conversation with two vendors about good-looking Power Ranger men.

Power Rangers Megaforce Rumors

Fans have been buzzing about the recent summary of a Power Rangers Megaforce comic reader from Barnes and Noble:
A comic reader based on the new Power Rangers season–which also happens to be the 20th anniversary of PR!
For centuries, groups of brave warriors known as Power Rangers have been called upon to protect our world from evil. Now, the future of humankind rests in the hands of a few ordinary teens with one extraordinary destiny.
The 20th Season of Power Rangers will include flashbacks, weapons, and characters from previous seasons, and promises to be the most exciting season yet!
There’s speculation that Saban will use Gokaiger mixed in with the Goseiger adaptation. May I remind you that Amy Jo Johnson was a “special guest” in Power Rangers Zeo’s “There’s No Business Like Snow Business Part 1″ as a flashback. And don’t forget “Clash of the Red Rangers” from Power Rangers Samurai with perma-stuck-in-suit RPM Red. I’m not totally counting out cameos here and there for Megaforce, but let’s not get our hopes up, people.
