Karan Ashley in NBA Commercial

Karan Ashley (Aisha from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) can be viewed very briefly in an ad touting the end of the NBA season, a collage of scenes from games where players unintentionally fall into the audience after tough plays.

During the second scene, when Orlando Magic star Mickael Pietrus flies into the crowd and begins fixing the hair of the person he collided with, Karan is over to the right of the screen in her seat looking over and laughing.

Matt Mullins (Len from Kamen Rider Dragon Knight) is part of the cast in a short film for shopping around a new Mortal Kombat movie to potential investors.

This means nothing as far as what the movie would be about, or what elements it would entail.  Only that there are parties interested in the production of a new film.

Matt plays Johnny Cage in the trailer.  Alongside him are Michael Jai White as Jax and Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade.

Ron Wasserman Releases New Song for Rock Band Video Game

Ron Wasserman (Composer from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) has just released a new song, entitled “American Hero” for purchase on Rock Band for XBox 360.

And lucky for all of us who don’t own a copy of the game, Owen Douglass, the lead author behind all of Ron’s songs appearing on RBN, has both “American Hero” and previous submission “Fight Back” available to download on MP3 for free from his website, Ozone Entertainment.

But that’s not all, they’re also holding a contest all this month to submit videos of yourself playing the song with your character dressed as the American Hero as described in Ron’s lyrics.  You have a chance to win a 4 month XNA premium account (to be able to test future RBN songs early) and a copy of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie personally signed by Ron himself!

You can find all the details for the contest here.

Michelle Langstone in Lipton Commercial

Michelle Langstone (Kat Manx from Power Rangers SPD) can be found in a new ad for Lipton Green Tea with Citrus.  It’s certainly an eye-catching piece, as it features talking fish at a farmer’s market.  She’s seen briefly at the start, taking a sip of the title product.

Neil Kaplan in StarCraft II Commercial

Hear that? That’s Neil Kaplan (Voice of Diabolico from Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue) for the new StarCraft II video game. There’s nothing else to say but awesome.

Bandai America Continues as Power Rangers Master Toy Licensee

Press Release from Bandai America:

BANDAI AMERICA INCORPORATED CONTINUES ITS “POWERFUL” LEGACY AS THE MASTER TOY LICENSEE OF POWER RANGERS

Multi-Year Deal Reunites Bandai America Incorporated with Original Power Rangers Developer

CYPRESS, Calif. – May 17, 2010 – Bandai America Incorporated, a leading manufacturer and master toy licensee of top children’s and interactive entertainment, announced today that it will continue as master toy licensee for the iconic pop culture powerhouse Power Rangers. Under the deal with Saban Brands, a new subsidiary of Saban Capital Group, Inc., Bandai America will continue its nearly twenty year tradition of developing fun and engaging action figures, playsets, role play items and more for the Power Rangers brand worldwide. The partnership comes on the heels of the announcement that the worldwide brand rights have returned to original franchise developer, Haim Saban.

In addition to Bandai America developing and manufacturing exciting new toys for the American market, Bandai Europe will also continue to produce and distribute the Power Rangers toy line across the continent. The toy lines will complement the re-imagined Power Rangers television series with new episodes set to air on Nickelodeon starting in 2011. Further, as part of the agreement, D3Publisher of America, Inc., developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software, will produce video games for the Power Rangers brand.

“Bandai America is committed to developing innovative toys that will reignite the Power Rangers brand as it embarks upon its third decade of pop culture dominance,” said Masayuki Matsuo, chairman and chief executive officer, Bandai America Incorporated. “The renewal of the Bandai and Saban collaboration will spark new fans and bolster longtime fan loyalty by delivering quality entertainment and create imaginative, modern play experiences.”

“It is only natural that as Power Rangers return to its original home with Saban, the toy license remains with Bandai America, creators of inspired, inventive toys for the brand since its inception,” said Elie Dekel, managing director and head of Saban Brands. “We are confident this reignited partnership will produce continued success and introduce the Power Rangers to a new generation of kids.”

In 1993, the Power Rangers dominated the air-waves, pop culture and playtime by showing that heroes and teamwork conquer all. Throughout the last 17 years, the brand has maintained its themes of teamwork, honesty, loyalty, courage, family, friends and above all, the victory of good over evil. In the past year, Bandai America launched a refreshed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toy line to match the revamped Mighty Morphin television series.

SABAN BRINGS “POWER RANGERS” FRANCHISE TO NICKELODEON

Eighteenth Season of Power Rangers to Air on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in 2011;

700-Episode Library Bows on Nicktoons in 2010

NEW YORK, May 13, 2010 – Nickelodeon, the number-one entertainment brand for kids, and SCG Power Rangers LLC, an affiliate of Saban Brands, have partnered to make Nick the U.S. television platform for Power Rangers, the long-running kids’ TV phenomenon now heading into its 18th television season. The partnership marks the return of the global franchise to its original developer, Haim Saban, who developed and produced the original “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” series in 1993. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are truly excited to be partners with Haim Saban and his team,” said Cyma Zarghami, President, Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group. “As one of the original leaders in kids’ television he helped to create powerful brand equity for Power Rangers and with partnerships like this Nickelodeon will be able to build a broader audience, superserve multiple demos, especially boys, and expand our programming offerings.”

“We are delighted to be partnering with Nickelodeon to bring the ever-popular Power Rangers to a whole new generation of viewers,” said Haim Saban, the original developer of Power Rangers. “With Nickelodeon’s reach we are at the beginning of a new era for one of the world’s leading children’s entertainment properties.”

“The Saban Brands team is looking forward to collaborating with the experts at Nick to re-launch and propel the new Power Rangers like never before,” said Elie Dekel, President of Saban Brands.

The deal brings the forthcoming 18th season (20 new episodes) of Power Rangers to Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in 2011, with the catalog of 700 episodes launching on Nicktoons later this year.

Produced by SCG Power Rangers LLC, Power Rangers will commence production in summer 2010 with original Executive Producer Jonathan Tzachor back at the helm and a new cast, look and theme for the show. Following its introduction in 1993, Power Rangers quickly became the most watched children’s television program in the United States. Emphasizing the importance of teamwork, responsibility and helping others by following the adventures of a group of ordinary young people who “morphed” into superheroes, the series was seen in more than 60 countries and translated into numerous languages. It rose to rank as the #1 boys brand in the world from 1993-97, based on toy sales and television ratings.

Concurrent with the acquisition of the Power Rangers franchise, Saban Brands has announced a new, long-term master toy and video game license agreement with Bandai America Incorporated, a subsidiary of Namco Bandai Holdings (USA) Inc., which has been the toy partner for Power Rangers since its inception. Saban Brands will manage the Power Rangers brand worldwide including licensing, merchandising, consumer promotions and brand extensions.
