Saban Buys Power Rangers Back from Disney
Haim Saban has Power Rangers back again. The negotiations with Disney started more than six months ago, and now Saban not only has the rights, but is moving forward with Nickelodeon to produce 20 new episodes which will premiere in 2011, while the Power Rangers library of older episodes will air on Nicktoons later this year. Saban has also renewed its licensing with Bandai America for the toy line.
According to Saban, Disney “did not develop the property and exploit it in the way that it deserves” and that he has a very long list of plans.

Brandon added these pithy words on May 12 10 at 5:52 pmDoes anyone know what seasons these 20 new episodes are coming from. Will they pick up where they left of with Shinkenger, or start in time with Goseiger.
Adam51586 added these pithy words on May 12 10 at 5:58 pmSweet deal! MMPR-PRRPM is back in the Worthy hands of Haim Saban it’s creator! I give this a 100^100 stars out of 5 for good news and a New Power Rangers Season 18 it sounds great!

Jay added these pithy words on May 13 10 at 12:10 amI knew there was hope. I bet Mr.Saban watched an episode of the disney remake and said, you know what I’m getting my show back. hehe Saban, you’re a hero! =D
kevin matsumura added these pithy words on May 13 10 at 1:56 pmi dont have cable so i’ll have to rely on the downloads but great news indeed. but 20 eps will make it the shortest season ever if im correct.
Jason L added these pithy words on May 13 10 at 5:10 pmWith only 20 episodes it makes me wonder if Power Rangers will be used in a hour format. Can this be done? I think so. It just has to be pulled off and I believe Saban can handle it.
This is the greatest news!
SpideyTerry added these pithy words on May 13 10 at 7:16 pmSix months ago? That’s when RPM was winding down (assuming it wasn’t being pre-empted). Heh, it’s kinda funny. While we were all expecting the show to take its last breath, work was already afoot to keep it going.
This is excellent news. Disney never treated Power Rangers properly. I’m excited about the prospect of new episodes and the original 700 being in rerun rotation. (Reminds me, gotta upgrade my digital channel package, so I can get Nicktoons.)
RaginRonic added these pithy words on May 14 10 at 2:05 amWell, it looks like WWE’s legendary UnderTaker is not the only entertainment industry presence to rise from the grave. =P XD
I just wish that the Power Rangers franchise wasn’t responsible for running the 1993-1995 ABC Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM animated TV show off TV in 1995.
Just sayin’. =P
