Plans for New Power Ranger Movie?
With Haim Saban’s recent reacquisition of Power Rangers, there are now talks of Power Rangers returning to theaters with a new feature film. There have always been movie rumors, but Saban seems really energized with attaining Power Rangers once again.
Disney, on the other hand, thought Power Rangers didn’t “fit in [their] long-term programming strategy or with the Disney brand,” said Disney spokesman Jonathan Friedland.

Saban Buys Power Rangers Back from Disney
Haim Saban has Power Rangers back again. The negotiations with Disney started more than six months ago, and now Saban not only has the rights, but is moving forward with Nickelodeon to produce 20 new episodes which will premiere in 2011, while the Power Rangers library of older episodes will air on Nicktoons later this year. Saban has also renewed its licensing with Bandai America for the toy line.
According to Saban, Disney “did not develop the property and exploit it in the way that it deserves” and that he has a very long list of plans.

No More Power Rangers in Fall 2011?
Since the beginning of this year, ABC has been reairing Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but the reruns may be in jeopardy coming Fall 2011. Litton Entertainment announced that they will produce “all-new, original half-hour E/I series exclusively for ABC stations for September 2011.” According to Darrell K. Brown, President of McGraw-Hill Broadcasting and Chairman of the ABC Affiliate Board, “The ABC Affiliate Association’s Board has recommended Litton’s lineup of E/I programs as the best programming and financial option for ABC affiliates.”
The ratings for Disney’s original programming have always been higher than Power Rangers could offer, so if anything were to get bumped from the lineup, it would be our beloved heroes in spandex. There is a possibility that Power Rangers reruns could resurface on Disney XD, but we all know how well that turned out the last time.

The End of the World: Jason Narvy’s Testament
This video is from a festival 3 years ago put together by Jeremy Cowan, Bart Farrell, and Jason Narvy (Skull from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers). In it, Narvy plays a preacher giving his message about “the end of the world”, or lack thereof. Warning, there is strong language.

David Yost Filming “Degenerate”
There isn’t much information about this indie film Degenerate, but there is a trailer. And if you had the sound off, you wouldn’t know that David Yost was anywhere near this. With black hair and goatee, he plays Marcus, a punk with his three friends who “flee the city after a night of violence. Seeking refuge in the Arizona desert, they will find that their friendships can only stretch so far.”
The film is marked on IMDB as being “in production”. Who knows if this will ever see the light of day. But again, there is a trailer:

Walter Jones Defeats DUI Case
Last summer, Walter Jones was charged with a DUI in Huntsville, Alabama and pleaded “not guilty”. We now learn that the case was dismissed.
Hell yeah the case was dismissed. Maybe the cops should stop charging people for “driving while black.”

Howard University Power Rangers
This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a video of people dressing up as Power Rangers and walking around town doing “normal” things, but this is pretty sweet. Other than my favorite part being the train conductor talking about the Rangers over the PA system, overall I’m still incredibly surprised and happy when I see black people embrace Power Rangers. And even freak out. As an African-American, seeing my people think it was so cool to see random folks dressed up was enjoyable to watch all 10 minutes.
