Premiere Screening of Power Rangers Samurai

According to The Grove website, there will be a premiere screening of Power Rangers Samurai on Monday, February 7th 5:30 – 6:30pm PT at the Park in The Grove. Plus, you’ll get a chance to meet and greet with the cast. If it’s truly the cast and not just random people in spandex, then this is actually cool.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, stop by and take lots of pictures!

Two Seasons of Power Rangers Samurai?

Looks like it! Paul Schrier (Bulk from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) recently visited Rangerboard with his words of wisdom and to drop some knowledge:

Let it suffice to say that I’m happy and proud to be back on the series…pleased to see my friends from the past coalescing into a potent force once again at Saban Brands, and totally STOKED to be appearing on Nick. With this two season run of Samurai, you’ll get more of a chance to love these characters, more opportunities to enjoy the show…and as has already been pointed out…the footage is crystal clear…welcome to HD MMPR!

There has been speculation as to whether Samurai’s 40-some-odd episodes would be stretched out to 2 seasons, and that seems to be the case. OR could they be keeping the same cast to morph into different suits and mecha for next year? The latter may be slim because casting only asked for the new cast to relocate for about 6-8 months, but who knows. Things could change!

Paul Schrier is Outside the Actor’s Studio

Saban’s crew is at it again with the promotion for Power Rangers Samurai, and this time they’ve got Paul Schrier (Bulk from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) into the mix. I want more “Outside the Actor’s Studio”! Love it!

Henshin Justice Unlimited Interviews Judd Lynn

It’s been since Power Morphicon 2 that we heard from Judd Lynn (Executive Producer of Power Rangers RPM), and Henshin Justice Unlimited just published their interview with him. In it, he goes in depth about how he started, taking over in RPM, and his theory on who the Phantom Ranger should have been. Check it out below:

1. Can you tell us what it was like rising from one of the writers to the show runner of Power Rangers?

Your history is off. I didn’t rise from being a writer. Here’s roughly my history on the show…

Jonathan Tzachor and I had worked together previously on low budget movies. Some real low-budget stuff. Then a friend of his offered us the chance to do the pilot for what was originally called “Dino Rangers.” If picked up, it would mean consistent work for months or years. We decided to do it, Jonathan as the Line Producer, me as the Unit Production Manager (UPM). The pilot turned out pretty well and was picked up. Most of us who saw it thought it was a nice little story, but the disjointed Japanese footage seemed like a crazy ingredient. Few of us had the insight of Haim Saban, who had no doubt it would be a winner.

The production team is essentially the suspension of the production machine… whatever bump comes up, you have to smooth it out and keep rolling forward. We had very little money and were totally non-union. This meant that those of us on the production staff (prod manager, coordinator, secretaries, assistant directors, PA’s) might have to step into many different roles, with no complaint and no second thought. From driving trucks to dressing in Ranger spandex costumes to being extras to repairing damages on locations… whatever it took to keep the filming moving we scrambled and made it happen. It was tough, but it was great, affording us all the opportunity to learn lots of new things, and to form a crew that became an extended family. But the hours and the stress can add up and I got tired of it. Not to mention, I had more creative endeavors in mind.

Blast from the Power Past – “Tommy Turbo, the White Power Ranger”

Jason David Frank is known to visit martial arts schools around the country, teaching kids and adults about self-discipline and self-respect. He’s also best known as Tommy Turbo, the White Power Ranger. What? Did I say something wrong?

In this video, Northland Cable News in Forest City, NC reports on Jason’s visit to the Ray Rice Martial Arts Center (around the same time as Power Rangers Turbo). After the news segment, there is also footage shot during the day of his visit (including some outtakes).
