Moar Shamus please!!!

1). I actually liked Drive, and am having a hard time getting through Ghost. Now, let me explain: I have watched everything from Kuuga to the current series, and know that there are GREAT Kamen Rider series, and some TERRIBLE series as well. In the time of watching Ghost, I have managed to rewatch Kuuga, Agito, Fiaz, and Blade. Just to make sure that the first three episodes of those seasons where better developed. Even by episode five, I was completely invested in each season, that I continued binge watching them… But Ghost? I’ve fallen asleep at least three times. I’ve zoned out. Okay, okay, I am a POWER RANGERS fan. I can usually take a level of ridiculousness. I am usually pretty good at suspending my belief system and giving the passing grade to some pretty wacky things, but in Ghost, I just can’t do it.

The voice over by KRG explaining who he is and why we should care about him every opening to every episode puts me to sleep. The theme song puts me to sleep. Drive’s theme song had me pumped up. Kabuto’s theme song had me pumped up, Blade’s theme song, Kuuga’s theme song, Gaim’s theme song, OOOs theme song, shoot half of [now lost] MP3 player was of the KR theme songs, because they were so badass to listen to…

So a theme song that puts me to sleep. I will put that aside.

Kamen Rider Ghost feels like the first 12 episodes, that someone else was aloud to write them. “Hey, wanna write about this “hero” that dies and gets all of these powers without earning them?” “Sure! What does he have to do?” “Oh, nothing. Let’s not give the audience any reason why we should care about him. Just kill him off. And then just tell the audience before every show that they care about him.” “Okay, sounds like a plan”.

Spectre feels like Chase 2.0. Not going to lie. Except, I cared for Chase more than I do of Spectre. It doesn’t hurt that he’s eye candy… (excuse me while I check his age to make sure I can type this). (Whew, he’s 21.. wait… I’m the Old Fart Fan… Um… what’s the rule? Take your age and minus seven years? Er. Well, uh…let’s move on, shall we?)

So, Chase 2.0 feels more like there is a story there. His sister was trapped in hell or some place… it’s thanks to their dad’s or the adults before or something like that. I can’t tell if I am supposed to care.

The old guy is okay. The puppet is Ticket 2.0. But I’d take ticket over that pointless puppet. I do like the bald monk guy. He’s pointless, but the actor is fun. So I will give him that.

Eh, the show tries to be serious later for one episode. We think we are seeing a shift in writing styles. (Hey, maybe they gave the script to a former Gaim writer?) And, for second, I was invested. But no, Ghost lives. And we are back to the same BS of the first ten episodes.

This feels more Sentai than a Kamen Rider series for me. I hope that this show is able to turn a corner and do what Gaim did. I want to see a dark series. I hope that it can get there. Till then, I am watching Rykendo, because there’s nothing more than watching a show that knows you are watching it. I mean, for every one Ghost, there’s half a season on another show being rewatched, in hopes to help me stay awake…
