Blast from the Power Past – Amy Jo Johnson on “The Sharon Osbourne Show”

About a month ago after a regular recording of the NPS podcast, the guys and myself usually shoot the breeze about random things, and more often than not our “breeze” rolls right back to Power Rangers. Amy Jo Johnson came up in conversation, and we talked about how fans online usually exaggerate how Amy Jo hates Power Rangers now and wants nothing to do with the show. Then Spy brought up that the fans may not be far off because of a March 2004 appearance on The Sharon Osbourne Show.

In the interview with Sharon, Amy is first asked about her experience on Power Rangers, and literally Amy’s response is “Well, um, it was – it was ok.” I really hate to be the one to mention this, but pay attention to what Amy first talks about: the negative. She ends up saying that it was “a good experience”, but not before mentioning the difficulties filming the show.

All in all, I still think that fans do exaggerate how Amy Jo “hates” Power Rangers, because people’s opinions and reactions to situations change over time. At one point, Steve Cardenas didn’t want to talk about Power Rangers at all, and now he’s going to conventions and is the nicest person you can meet. Things do change. Just because Amy Jo wanted to leave Power Rangers to pursue other things and become more than just the “Pink Ranger” doesn’t mean she abhors the show.

Just saying.

Jason David Frank Filming “The One Warrior”

Jason David Frank is currently in Alabama filming a fantasy/action film called The One Warrior for 20 days. Jason as The One Warrior “finds himself in a mythical world where he must destroy the Evil Lord Shoukata, but to do so he must first fight his way through many challenges. Ones that include dragons, the cursed swords of Damacleus, the Samurai Six, the Amazon Warriors and much, much more. And with each level he passes through the more powerful he becomes, until finally at the end we find out that it is really a man who has been testing a new video game. Or was it? The truth may never be known”.

Here are a couple of pictures from the set:

Kamen Rider Dragon Knight Japanese DVD Cover

Kamen Rider Dragon Knight has been cancelled here in the US, but the Japanese seem to love their Len and Kit bromance. The first of DVDs will be released in June, and here’s the cover. Wasn’t a fan of the show, but that is one good-looking cover.

“Go, Go Power Rangers” Got Sampled

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers theme song alone has been parodied over the years in music, but there have been a few songs that actually sampled the theme as “real” tunes. Songs that “regular” people listen to. The following are from the hip-hop/rap genre, and I definitely would not have noticed it until pointed out to me, so thanks to Popular Opinions with Chaz Kangas!

The first features Juvenile with “I Got That Fire” in 2000, and the second (Warning: Explicit Content) features Young Dro with “House on Me” in 2008.

Fall Line of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 2010 Toys

February means one thing to toy collectors: Toy Fair. Every year this is where we get a sneak of what mounds of plastic eagerly await their chance to clean out our wallets. Having recently gotten a taste of Bandai of America’s new Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers line we were all wondering what would be in store for the rest of the year. What old toys would be re-released with a modern twist? Which memories from our childhood would be passed by in favor of today’s trends? As expected we got a very mixed bag of products that has left some fans happy, some fans disappointed and all fans hoping for more.

Deluxe Mix & Morph Titanus Base ($32.99 SRP): The first toy on our list really demonstrates the polarization of the hardcore collectors. For those who don’t know, the Mix & Morph line is based around Bandai of America’s extremely popular Ben 10 alien creation line. It basically allows you to take small versions the individual arms, legs and torsos of your favorite rangers and zords to combine them in any way that you see fit. It’s perfect for letting your imagination run wild.

On the flip side, we have Titanus. MMPR was back in the day before every ranger team had dozens of zords. Titanus – much like the Dino Megazord – was a sacred cow not to be messed with. Now they’ve been combined. I see it as the best of both worlds. The Megazord can ride on Titanus just like he did nearly two decades ago and kids can continue to create their own ranger/zord hybrids. But this begs the question: where’s the Dragonzord? The first season of MMPR had three main zords. We have the first. The third is confirmed. But where is the second?

No Power Rangers RPM Vols. 3 and 4 DVDs?

Via TVShowsOnDVD.com:

Last October we reported about a give-away promotional DVD that was available at the Disney Store chain, promoting ABC/Disney’s return of the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers episodes to the television broadcast lineup. This promo disc had some news with it, too, on the outer sleeve. [...]

Since the first of the year, we’ve received a number of e-mails from fans, concerned that we haven’t brought further word yet about the “advertised” Amazon-exclusive releases of Power Rangers R.P.M. – Volume 3 and Volume 4. Nor has the big e-tailer added any release listings for those titles, and consumer inquires to Amazon have been met with a routine-sounding reply which primarily communicates that “this item isn’t currently available at (Amazon’s) website.”

So we’ve checked into it further, and found out a couple of things. First, and most importantly, Disney has passed along word to one of our contacts that these titles are “on hold”. That’s the exact phrase used, which could mean that they are simply delayed, or it could possibly mean that they won’t be happening at all; we haven’t gotten clear on that. Secondly, and also interesting, the gossip is that perhaps Amazon had no knowledge that their name would be invoked on the sleeve of that promotional disc; our contacts hint that no agreement had been made at that time for such an arrangement (we suppose that this could possibly be part of the reason ABC/Disney put the releases “on hold”).

In short, the DVDs are “on hold” and supposedly Amazon didn’t even know that they were going to be used in the promotional Disney DVD for the new line of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toys.

There are no words.
