One month shy of a year since production was first announced, both The Wrap and Variety report that negotiations are now in play to nab the director for the upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers film.
Dean Israelite, whose directing credits include the time-traveling feature film Project Almanac, is said to be a huge fan of the Power Rangers and apparently turned down opportunities to direct other high-profile franchise films waiting for one that properly suited him.
Israelite seemed like a long shot for the job, given the popularity of the property and his relative inexperience helming feature films, but after a presentation that blew away studio execs, Lionsgate is said to have decided to give Israelite the job fairly quickly.
Written by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, and produced by Haim Saban, Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur, this film is a development of Lionsgate and Saban Brands. It will be released in theaters on July 22, 2016.
Angie Diaz (Vida from Power Rangers Mystic Force) is in a new commercial for Summer’s Eve. She plays a mom strutting in a grocery store while pushing a shopping cart and her son stares at her wondering what’s up with her.
She was on to promote The CW’s iZombie, describing her role as taking a long time in the makeup chair, something where her skill sets are constantly challenged, and being referred to as a “ZILF”.
Last Call With Carson Daly airs weeknights at 1:35 AM on NBC.
Nikolai Nikolaeff (Dominic from Power Rangers Jungle Fury) has a recurring role on the upcoming Netflix series Marvel’s Daredevil. The report from SuperHeroHype:
Nikolai Nikolaeff (“Camp,” “Sea Patrol”) and Gideon Emery (“Grimm,” “How to Train Your Dragon 2”) as Vladimir and Anatoly, two Russian brothers looking to forge new names for themselves in America.
“With an already tremendous cast, these six actors help to fully flesh out Matt Murdock’s world and give life to Hell’s Kitchen,” said Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb. “We’ve been blessed to work with such amazing actors on this series to create a truly remarkable first season.”
Starring Charlie Cox as the Man Without Fear, “Marvel’s Daredevil” will premiere all 13 episodes on Netflix April 10.

Joseph Kahn, director/producer/co-writer of the viral fan film POWER/RANGERS conducted an interview with KABC-7’s George Pennachio for their 11:00 PM broadcast on February 26, 2015.
Eka Darville (Scott from Power Rangers RPM) has booked a role on the upcoming Netflix series Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones. The report from Marvel’s official website:
Eka Darville plays Malcolm, a neighbor of Jessica’s whose own journey will intertwine with her quest in a surprising way.
“Eka brings such depth, humor and nuanced performance to the characters he plays, which makes him the perfect person to portray Malcolm,” says Executive Producer Melissa Rosenberg. “I’m looking forward to seeing what he will bring to this role.”

One of the newer assortments from the Power Rangers’ endless line is the Armored Rangers series. Debuting last year, I first took notice of it when I saw that the Super Megaforce Red Ranger figure came complete with weapons from past seasons such as ZEO and SPD. The line expanded to include the Red, Green, and White Rangers from Mighty Morphin’. It’s good to see the continuation of this assortment with Dino Charge and I decided that now would be as good of a time as ever to get my first hand’s on experience with it.
On Sunday, February 1, 2015, TMZ broke the story about Rick Medina a.k.a. Ricardo Medina, Jr. (Cole from Power Rangers Wild Force) being arrested for stabbing his roommate Joshua Sutter in the stomach with a sword after an altercation:
According to law enforcement … Medina retreated to his bedroom with his girlfriend — but Sutter forced his way into the bedroom … and that’s when Medina allegedly stabbed him once in the abdomen with the sword.
Medina called 911 and waited for for cops to arrive. He was arrested and booked for murder. Sutter was transported to a hospital … where he was pronounced dead.
ABC7.com is now reporting that the charges against Medina for murder were dropped today and the district attorney is requesting further investigation. Medina was released today at approximately 1:00 PM PT.

If there is one constant in the Power Rangers franchise, it’s the basic action figures assortment. My parents couldn’t always afford Megazords, but for me, the basic action figures were a must every year. I like to consider myself somewhat of a more discerning collector. I’m not going to buy everything available because: A) I don’t have that much disposable income, and B) I like to spend a nice chunk of what I do have on importing a lot of Super Sentai merchandise. I’ve always been one to pick and choose in a more selective manner just what I purchase from the Power Rangers line each year. However, I have always picked up the basic figures and I’m happy to say that this year’s assortment is one of the more eye-catching in recent memory.
