Here’s the exclusive Power Morphicon toy from Bandai. At first I wasn’t going to buy it, but then as I was picking up on for a friend, I noticed that the Power Morphicon logo was on it. For those who don’t know, I designed the Power Morphicon logo. This is the first time a design of mine has been on an official product, so heck yeah I’m buying it. I can actually show this to mom!

As a Power Force member, we were treated to a breakfast during Power Morphicon and each received gift bags. The following pictures are the contents (and the bag itself).

Tshirt time! If you went to Power Morphicon, you’ll recognize the first two shirts right away. The Vortexx folks were giving away Lost Galaxy shirts…in XL…for men. Please make some lady shirts! The second is one of the Power Morphicon shirts. Pretty sweet.

The following two shirts are the best shirts ever. The first being awesome and the second being awesomer! And finally, these shirts are my size, so I can rock ‘em with pride!

Finally, here’s the swag I bought from Walter Jones. The first being a rare poster of him, Austin St. John, and Thuy Trang doing a promo shot for Cyber Force. Cyber Force was a movie that the three were going to work on but it didn’t pan out. At least they have pictures to prove it almost existed! The last picture is self-explanatory awesomeness. I, too, want to be a Dance Master and a Karate Master!

The Shortest Short film ever. Cowboys vs. Samurais. It took over five years to finish this. Arnie Peterson was the Director of Photography. He shot well over an hour of footage in what resulted in a 60 second piece. Two of the original power rangers are in it- Austin St. John, Walter Jones and “Bulk” Paul Schrier. According to PersaCon’s chairperson Lauren Collen, that Sunday morning, Jones asked for directions at a local gas station and was pulled over for “‘failure to dim headlights’.” She continues, “He forced a very competent and alert (obviously not drunk) Walter to perform the various field sobriety tests. For those that don’t know, those tests consist of testing your balance, awareness, and even a breathalyzer (which checks how much alcohol is in your system). Walter passed all of those tests with flying colors, and yet he was still handcuffed.”

Jones was then charged for driving under the influence, and TMZ caught wind of the situation. Needless to say, it was all over the internet, and hardly anyone got to hear the other side of the story.

Now, our Black Ranger is fighting back! According to TMZ, “Lawyers for Walter Jones … were in an Alabama court yesterday to enter the plea” of not guilty. The trial is set for mid-November.

After flying in early Thursday afternoon, getting a flat tire, and completely missing the SPD and Lost Galaxy cast, I was through. I couldn’t take anymore disappointment! But meeting Roger Velasco (Carlos from Power Rangers Turbo, Power Rangers in Space) really perked up my spirits, and he was such an easy guy to talk to. Unfortunately he was the first interview, and we were having some major audio problems. I was so afraid that it would be like this for the rest of the weekend, but I quickly troubleshooted it for Selwyn Ward’s (TJ from Power Rangers Turbo, Power Rangers in Space) interview right after. Selwyn looks exactly the same as he was on the show eons ago. If you didn’t know by now, black people don’t age. It’s true. Look at Walter Jones! But I digress.

Interviewing Selwyn was a little nerve-wracking for me because…well, I don’t know why. All I remember is being very nervous, but he was a sweetheart, and he knew when to dish out the dirt! Loved it! In fact, when asked about Christopher Khayman Lee (Andros from Power Rangers in Space), him and Roger both had to hesitate and both said the same thing about Chris being more to himself. Very interesting.

Friday, we had a bunch of interviews, including Steve Cardenas, Karan Ashley, and Nakia Burrise. Every morning, the NPS crew were stationed 3 feet away from Steve and Karan’s table, so after seeing each other for 3 days straight for 8 hours a day (give or take), people get loopy. There was a lot of waiting around for rangers to sneak away time to come by us, but since Steve and Karan were right there, they were easy. One of the production assistants, Johnathan, mentioned that Karan was really happy to see me. Karan’s really happy period!

When I was interviewing Steve. JC (the person who organized the reunion at AX) noticed Nakia coming over to the ranger booth and nudged her over to Steve while I was interviewing him so that their reunion could be caught on camera. And it was! Then Nakia came around to me and gave me a hug as well! Ever since I interviewed her back in May 2008 (even before then), we’ve been exchanging emails back and forth. Finally we meet, so I’m glad that moment was caught on camera as well, no matter how bad I look! During her interview though, Steve interrupted by hugging Nakia on camera. Love that guy! If you haven’t seen it, it’s the blooper at the end of Nakia’s video interview.

Then Blake was up next, and the cool tidbit about this was that he had just gotten a tattoo (among others) of the Blue Ranger Turbo helmet on his right arm that Thursday of the convention. Hardcore stuff! The tat was cool, but I’m still old school. I’d still be worried when I’m 80 and everything’s sagging!

Finally! A good picture! I had to throw in the obligatory “Chocolatey Goodness – The Female Edition” in there. Makes a sistah proud! A good way to end off Friday, I’d say.

Saturday was a whirlwind! Many more interviews, the Power Rangers Panel, and did I say more interviews? Interviewing Catherine Sutherland was a trip because I had just interviewed her back in March, so what else was I going to ask her? I didn’t care though, because this woman needs to be on camera as much as possible! Very sweet, and very tall! During the interview, Steve came in midway and hugged Catherine, continuing the Nakia running gag! Again, love that guy when’s he’s bored!

Walter Jones was suppose to be at the convention the whole weekend, but he was shooting a vampire movie in Louisiana, got on a plane early Saturday morning to fly into Burbank Airport, rushed home, and then rushed to come right in the middle of the Power Rangers Panel. That’s some dedication! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to interview him. He forgot. Twice. And that’s all I’ll say!

The weekend was a blast! There were some amazing moments that weren’t able to be caught on still camera, but I’m a video person. I tape everything! I’ll be finishing off the Anime Expo coverage this week, and I hope you got more than a glimpse of our experience. This chapter will end but another will open up sooner than you think!

Before I go back into my editing cave, I want to thank you all for making this happen. No Pink Spandex would not have been at Anime Expo without the support and the MANY donations. I’m being very honest. There was a time where I wasn’t going because I didn’t have the funds, but you guys made it happen. If you really want to make more trips like this happen, then keep supporting and keep donating! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

ROBERT AXELROD

A vocal auter supreme for decades, Robert is the one and only voice of Lord Zedd, the emperor of all he sees. In addition to his role as Finster in MMPR, Robert has also starred in countless classic Saban Entertainment programs and even lent his voice talents to PR’s spiritual ancestor Robotech!

JASON NARVY

Perpetually beloved as the multitalented Eugene Skullovitch, Jason Narvy is a riveting performer and teacher who can compel an audience with equal parts vaudevillian shtick and Shakespearean oratory.

WALTER JONES

Best known as Zack Taylor, the original Black Ranger, Walter Emanuel Jones has also charted a memorable television career with such roles as Harlan on Space Cases. These days Walter tears up the dance floor as a salsa instructor.

ED NEIL

The skinless physical half of Lord Zedd, Ed Neil began his career on Power Rangers as part of the show’s original stunt team. He continued for almost ten seasons in a number of roles from the morphed Red MMPR Ranger, to Deviot’s suit actor, and out of costume as the recurring Lost Galaxy trooper Jasper.

As brainy Billy Cranston, David Yost was one of the original “teenagers with attitude” who propelled MMPR to monumental success around the world. David also spent one of the longest unbroken tenures on Power Rangers for main cast members.

Nation’s Largest Anime and Manga Convention Announces Power Ranger Reunion and Panel

Anaheim, California (April 17, 2009) ‹ Blast off with Anime Expo® and members of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Ranger dynasty as they storm into the Los Angeles Convention Center for one of the biggest Ranger Reunions to date at the nation¹s largest anime and manga convention held July 2-5, 2009. This’ll be the first time that the “replacements” in MMPR will reunite in one place, being Karan, Johnny, Steve, and Catherine. Adding Walter to the mix is the icing on the cake! And since this will be in Los Angeles, no doubt other alums will stop by. Dan Southworth is notorious for showing up to ranger events, so I’d bet money that he’s be there. Tony Oliver is usually there with Bang Zoom! Entertainment. Patricia Ja Lee has been to AX in the past, so she may be there as well.

Don’t hold your breath for anyone showing up unexpectedly or spontaneously who isn’t living in the LA area. Trust me.
