Ron Wasserman (Composer from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) has been recutting original Power Ranger songs just for kicks. Here’s what he said from Rangerboard:

So, after years of thinking/dreaming/pondering and distractions I finally started recutting some of the original Power Ranger songs.

Hard to believe it’s been almost 20 years since I originally did these songs.

Let me get a few things clear up front. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel here. Part of the fun for me on this project is using 2012 technology to remake the tracks using the same process I used from the beginning which goes like this…. I create my group of custom sounds to create the ‘band’. I run a few tests, and when I like how they all sound together I start the track. First rhythm guitar to a click, then drums, then bass, then lead vocals, then harmonies, then guitar, piano etc. overdubs and I start to build up the sound. The last thing I’ll record is lead guitar. I’m still thinking about who should do that as I don’t want to ape the old solos or additional lead parts. I’d like that to be totally different than the original…..(or at least a far step away from the original). BTW – Might call in Bruce Watson for this. He did a lot of the later stuff with me. That could be interesting……

Secondly I am restricted from what I can do….same as anyone else covering these songs. I can only create “my version” if the tracks if the original song(s) were released commercially on Cd or iTunes etc. If it was only used on TV, then no one can legally cover and release that song.

But that’s not all, they’re also holding a contest all this month to submit videos of yourself playing the song with your character dressed as the American Hero as described in Ron’s lyrics.  You have a chance to win a 4 month XNA premium account (to be able to test future RBN songs early) and a copy of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie personally signed by Ron himself!

Ron Wasserman (Composer from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) has also spoke on the issue via Starpoints Rangercrew:

I just heard [Mighty Morphin Power Rangers] was a go. I was told there was a chance they’d want things re-scored a few months back, but never heard back. A friend of mine said they were using all the original music because Saban owns all the rights and there was something in the contract that would have prevented Disney from replacing the music. I’m not absolutely certain about this so I guess we’ll all find out next year.

BLAKE FOSTER

As Justin Stewart, Blake portrayed PR’s first and only Tweenager with Attitude. An experienced martial artist then, and an even greater one now, Blake is the only Ranger actor to appear with both Chuck Norris and Hilary Duff.

RON WASSERMAN

Also known to Power Rangers fandom as Aaron Waters or The Mighty RAW, Ron Wasserman wrote, performed and scored some of the most memorable music from MMPR’s first three seasons, including 5-4-1, We Need a Hero, Go Green Ranger, and the legendary Bulk and Skull theme song. He also performed the PRiS and PRSPD themes.

VALERIE VERNON

As PRLG’s Kendrix Morgan, Valerie was not only the first female tech-geek Ranger, but was the first Power Ranger to fall in the line of duty. From her own struggle to overcome leukemia, Valerie continues to display a depth of courage that would do any Ranger proud.
