Power Rangers Movie Soundtrack CD Releases April 7, 2017

Amazon has posted a listing for the Saban’s Power Rangers Original Soundtrack, featuring the film’s score by Brian Tyler as well as vocal singles including “I Walk the Line” by Halsey, a cover of “Sympathy for the Devil” by The Rolling Stones, and “Go Go Power Rangers! (2017 Version)” by the Power Rangers Orchestra.

The soundtrack will be on sale in digital format beginning March 24, 2017, and on disc beginning April 7, 2017.

Ron Wasserman Recutting Original Songs from Power Rangers

Ron Wasserman (Composer from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) has been recutting original Power Ranger songs just for kicks. Here’s what he said from Rangerboard:

So, after years of thinking/dreaming/pondering and distractions I finally started recutting some of the original Power Ranger songs.

Hard to believe it’s been almost 20 years since I originally did these songs.

Let me get a few things clear up front. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel here. Part of the fun for me on this project is using 2012 technology to remake the tracks using the same process I used from the beginning which goes like this…. I create my group of custom sounds to create the ‘band’. I run a few tests, and when I like how they all sound together I start the track. First rhythm guitar to a click, then drums, then bass, then lead vocals, then harmonies, then guitar, piano etc. overdubs and I start to build up the sound. The last thing I’ll record is lead guitar. I’m still thinking about who should do that as I don’t want to ape the old solos or additional lead parts. I’d like that to be totally different than the original…..(or at least a far step away from the original). BTW – Might call in Bruce Watson for this. He did a lot of the later stuff with me. That could be interesting……

Secondly I am restricted from what I can do….same as anyone else covering these songs. I can only create “my version” if the tracks if the original song(s) were released commercially on Cd or iTunes etc. If it was only used on TV, then no one can legally cover and release that song.

Eyeshine in “Gimme the Gig” Contest

Johnny Yong Bosch’s band Eyeshine performed in the Ford Fiesta “Gimme the Gig” contest, held at the Whisky A GoGo nightclub in West Hollywood, CA and broadcast on KTLA-5, The CW affiliate in Los Angeles.

Presented by Grammy-winning music producer Don Was, the competition dwindled some of the best unsigned rock bands from all over the west coast down to the top seven, who all showcased their talent in front of a live audience before one was selected by Was to work with on the production of two tracks. Unfortunately, Eyeshine didn’t take the top prize, but they did get to start off the evening. You can view the entire event below.

Ron Wasserman’s Future for Power Rangers 2011 Season

Ron Wasserman (Composer for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) has posted a message on Rangerboard announcing that the new Saban Brands, LLC has hired on someone to arrange background music for the upcoming season of Power Rangers next year, and it isn’t him.

“Hello Everyone,

Well I just heard from Jonathan Tzachor that they have someone else doing the music for Saban’s new Power Rangers and I will not be involved in any capacity.

So, after so many years of involvement with the show, I think it’s best to put it in my past, be happy for all the great years I was involved with it and just let it go.

I sincerely wish big success and a long run for all who will be involved with the new production.”

Ron Wasserman Releases New Song for Rock Band Video Game

Ron Wasserman (Composer from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) has just released a new song, entitled “American Hero” for purchase on Rock Band for XBox 360.

And lucky for all of us who don’t own a copy of the game, Owen Douglass, the lead author behind all of Ron’s songs appearing on RBN, has both “American Hero” and previous submission “Fight Back” available to download on MP3 for free from his website, Ozone Entertainment.

But that’s not all, they’re also holding a contest all this month to submit videos of yourself playing the song with your character dressed as the American Hero as described in Ron’s lyrics. You have a chance to win a 4 month XNA premium account (to be able to test future RBN songs early) and a copy of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie personally signed by Ron himself!

“Go, Go Power Rangers” Got Sampled

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers theme song alone has been parodied over the years in music, but there have been a few songs that actually sampled the theme as “real” tunes. Songs that “regular” people listen to. The following are from the hip-hop/rap genre, and I definitely would not have noticed it until pointed out to me, so thanks to Popular Opinions with Chaz Kangas!

The first features Juvenile with “I Got That Fire” in 2000, and the second (Warning: Explicit Content) features Young Dro with “House on Me” in 2008.

Let’s face it, we hear a lot of covers of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers theme song time and time again, and they either sound a lot alike, or they just pretty much suck. The one below stays within the same vein and feel of the original, but at least the cover is well done, so kudos! Check it out!

Family Force 5 – Ranger Edition

I’ve been listening to the Family Force 5 for a few months now, and I love them. I love them even more for their music video for “Dance or Die”. There isn’t any spandex (Thank God?), but these guys were definitely influenced by Power Rangers for the video.

The J-Pop/Rock band VAMPS has recently done a cover of Shampoo’s “Trouble”. Doesn’t sound familiar? Think Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and that catchy pop tune off the soundtrack.
