MMPR Cast Lend Their Voices to Ford Overdubs

The Ford Motor Company has created a series of internet commercials they call Overdubs, taking existing media and recording new audio tracks that promote the merits of their automobile line.

The latest TV series to receive the treatment is Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, and Ford has enlisted the voices of Jason David Frank, Steve Cardenas, Karan Ashley, David Fielding (the first face and voice of Zordon), and Kerrigan Mahan (Voice of Goldar).

Legacy Wars Gameplay Footage: Ludi Lin Vs. Jason David Frank!

At this year’s Game Developers Conference, nWay held a demonstration for their new mobile game Power Rangers Legacy Wars, featuring two special guests as the players, Jason David Frank and Ludi Lin (Zack, Power Rangers), using their trademark characters to battle.

Power Rangers Legacy Wars will be available on iOS and Android March 23, 2017.

Valiant Comics and Bat in the Sun just finished their panel at New York Comic Con and showed the following teaser trailer for the upcoming web series Ninjak Vs The Valiant Universe featuring Jason David Frank:

The cast includes Michael Rowe (Ninjak), Jason David Frank (Bloodshot) John Morrison (The Eternal Warrior), Chantelle Barry (Roku), Kevin Porter (Armstrong), Ciera Foster (Livewire), and Derek Theler (X-O Manowar). There will be 6 episodes in total. No word yet on type of online distribution.

Jason David Frank is Bloodshot in “Ninjak” Web Series

Comicbook.com reports the Valiant Comics reveal that Jason David Frank’s (Tommy from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) role in the upcoming Ninjak web series is that of fellow Valiant heavy-hitter character Bloodshot. To announce this news in the biggest way possible, Valiant has released a special variant edition of Bloodshot #14 with Frank as the title character on the cover.

Directed by Bat in the Sun and starring Michael Rowe in the title role of Ninjak, the 6-8 episode miniseries will feature the warrior doing battle with many of the Valiant stable’s other marquee players, including Bloodshot, X-O Manowar and Timewalker.

Fans can pick up the Top-Secret Project Jason David Frank Variant of Bloodshot #14 at the New York Comic Con during Frank’s signing session on Friday, October 7 at Valiant booth #1635.

Jason David Frank in “Ninjak” Web Series

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Jason David Frank (Tommy from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) is slated to appear in a new web series developed by Valiant Comics following one of their most popular characters, Ninjak.

Directed by Bat in the Sun and starring Michael Rowe in the title role, the 6-8 episode miniseries will feature Ninjak doing battle with many of the Valiant stable’s other marquee players, including Bloodshot, X-O Manowar and Timewalker. The character being played by Jason Frank is unknown at this time.

Filming has apparently already begun in Los Angeles, with an official announcement of this project expected at New York Comic Con in October.

Review: Legacy Communicator – Tommy Oliver Edition

The long-awaited prop that fans have been clamoring for years to get their hot little hands on has finally started to hit store shelves. The latest Toys”R”Us-exclusive legacy item is a replica of the classic communicator for all of your teleporting and Zordon-chatting needs. It comes in two versions: a regular version for the main five rangers and a special Tommy Oliver edition if you prefer the green and white motif. At the moment, only the latter version has been seen in stores. Retailing at $79.99 the item is wearable on adult wrists and contains many vintage Power Rangers phrases.

Jason David Frank Returns to “Heroes of Cosplay”

Jason David Frank (Tommy from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) made his second appearance on the SyFy reality competition series Heroes of Cosplay.

He was a judge on the panel for the remaining contestants’ entries at the 2014 Wizard World convention in Portland, Oregon. In addition to the festivities, there were also people dressed up as the Green Ranger and Rita Repulsa. The episode is #110.

Jason David Frank has made big waves today confirming his return to Power Rangers in Power Rangers Megaforce. According to Jason, he “read the script and [is] pretty excited about it. The Green and the White Ranger” will have cameos.

Does this mean we’ll see Jason donning the White Ranger suit as well in Megaforce? If so, how will it all work out? Only time (and hopefully more leaks) will tell! Check out his video below:

Cancellations are bound to happen, but this first one is big. Jason David Frank has cancelled his appearance at Power Morphicon 3. On his Facebook page, he writes:

Hey Team,
I’m sorry to have to announce that I’m not going to be able to make it to Power Morphicon in August. I really wanted to go but I have so many appearances booked and my new school is opening in Houston that month also. I try to do everything I can for my fans but I just can’t be everywhere at once. We have a saying over here at No Pink Spandex: Stay away from the spandex. It doesn’t breathe. Don’t ask me how I came up with it, but it just seemed apt for what we usually cover on the podcast and on this site. We talk about the current show but we also keep up with what the Power Ranger alums are doing. 9 times out of 10, they’re not in spandex. They’re wearing regular clothes doing regular things. Not Jason David Frank. This man is not afraid of the spandex. This man wears the spandex like a badge of honor, thrusting his colorful shapes at you. This man has balls.

Let’s put this in context. This past weekend, Jason had a boot camp of the Ranger persuasion. Eight adults paid a ton of dough to train with him and they had a damn good time. One of them brought their Green Ranger cosplay suit along. The rest is history. According to Jason, it’s been 8 years since he’s worn any Power Ranger suit. Folks at home who are good with math will calculate that back to the Dino Thunder days.

And of course, you have to round things off with some putty-esque butt-kicking…only with your boot camp students!

I think it’s very cool of Jason getting back in the spirit of his Ranger days and donning the spandex once again. Who’s next? Steve Cardenas? Walter Jones? Johnny Yong Bosch? Next convention appearance, make that happen!

Jason David Frank is known to visit martial arts schools around the country, teaching kids and adults about self-discipline and self-respect. He’s also best known as Tommy Turbo, the White Power Ranger. What? Did I say something wrong?

Jason David Frank is currently in Alabama filming a fantasy/action film called The One Warrior for 20 days. Jason as The One Warrior “finds himself in a mythical world where he must destroy the Evil Lord Shoukata, but to do so he must first fight his way through many challenges. Ones that include dragons, the cursed swords of Damacleus, the Samurai Six, the Amazon Warriors and much, much more. And with each level he passes through the more powerful he becomes, until finally at the end we find out that it is really a man who has been testing a new video game. Or was it? The truth may never be known”.

Jason David Frank was a guest on In the Cage with Adam Villarreal on 97.5 ESPN Radio in Houston, TX last night. He talked about his upcoming fights and the MMA industry, and answered questions from fans calling in the show.

Jason and Justin Trapp of Fighter Portraits also talked about the upcoming documentary Four Weeks Out. The premise is following Jason around as he prepares for his debut MMA fight. Three times a week, they’ve been filming everything from training to regular day-to-day life. The goal is to shop the documentary to TV networks, but they say there will be a DVD.

Ikkicon 2010 reunited Jason David Frank and Johnny Yong Bosch over the New Year’s weekend, and with a new year comes potential new projects. Both are working on a new movie together called Blue Sun which will start filming in February. They’re also talking about having Jason featured in Eyeshine’s next music video (Johnny’s band).

According to Jason, details still have to be worked out. Work ‘em out, boys!

What Do Austin St. John and Jack Abramoff Have in Common?

I recently purchased Austin St. John’s Karate Masters instructional video, and I found an odd connection to the former Mighty Morphin Red Ranger. Jack Abramoff is notorious for defrauding Native American tribes and also involved many political figures in his cons and schemes. He’s currently in prison on three counts of felony.

So who would have thought that he’d be a Co-Executive Producer of Austin St. John’s karate video?! Granted, the position of “executive producer” is wide ranging, from being involved with every process of the production to just lending funds, and I’m highly guessing it’s the latter.

Too bad for Austin that Saban Entertainment produced the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Karate Club videos starring Jason David Frank before Austin’s own video was released. Rumors say that Saban got wind of Austin creating his own video, so Saban quickly pushed to get instructional videos produced under the Power Rangers brand.

No Pink Spandex Behind-the-Scenes: Zenkaikon 2009

I will start by saying that this convention appearance from NPS was not planned. It was going to be Anime Expo, Anime Festival Orlando, and that was it! But then fellow Production Assistant Jessica wanted to go and have company with her, and since it was only a few hours drive from us, I said sure! Shoot a little Power Rangers panel, shoot a little Eyeshine concert, and that’s it! Or so I thought.

Zenkaikon 2009 was a two-day con (November 7-8), and it was jammed packed with events if you were a Johnny Yong Bosch fan alone! Trust me, I fell asleep a couple times just out of pure exhaustion. Ok, that part was my fault for not sleeping the Friday night before, lol. But the staff really had Johnny doing some panel or concert or autograph session every hour on Saturday. It was a bit intense because Robert Axelrod (Voice of Lord Zedd) was also a guest, and his events/panels kept conflicting with Johnny’s.

Not only was there a Power Rangers panel, but there was an Eyeshine panel, two Eyeshine concerts, two autograph sessions, a Bleach panel (basically a JYB panel), and more things that weren’t on the program that I heard offhand. Did I mention that they planned Axelrod’s panel at the same time as opening ceremonies? I didn’t? Yeah, they did. They also planned the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie” screening at the same time as the Power Rangers panel. They also planned Axelrod’s panel “So You Wanna Be a Voice Over Star” at the same time as Johnny’s autograph session, which, by the way, was a never-ending line and his autograph session had to extend into two hours. YEAH. THEY DID. But I digress.

The good stuff started at the Power Rangers panel. While we were waiting for the previous panel to end by the door, Johnny stood by us to wait as well. Then the fans on the line started whipping out their cameras, and one fan asked for Johnny to morph with his morpher. Just pretend there’s a picture here showing Johnny morphing with fans.

As for the actual panel, this is the first time that Johnny and Axelrod were on a panel together, and they talked about how many cons they’ve been to in the past and never met up. Many of the typical questions came up, but one fan asked if Johnny or Axelrod knew about a second Power Morphicon was going to be planned (and if so, when and where). Axelrod said that there’s a second one happening, but he didn’t know when and didn’t know where. And then Johnny spilled that he wasn’t invited. Cue outcry.

Eyeshine Q&A

Right after the Power Rangers panel came the Eyeshine Q&A. Johnny mentioned that although it was an Eyeshine Q&A, if asking about Power Rangers or anime will get people to stick around, by all means ask, lol! People did, but it was mostly questions about the band, so that hour filled out nicely. One tidbit that Johnny mentioned was that he currently keeps in contact with Jason David Frank and that Jason will be in an MMA fight in February. Hopefully he won’t get injured again and it’ll happen this time!

Johnny Yong Bosch Autograph Session

By this time, Johnny was very happy that someone with a more-than-decent video camera was taping his events at the convention, so the NPS crew went into the autograph session and taped some more. Caught a couple of Power Ranger fans getting stuff signed, including one fan who actually drew Johnny a picture of Adam in the black ranger suit anime style. It’s actually really cool, and another PR fan there was cool with her MMPR t-shirt (shown above). So I approve! Everyone else, BAD FORM. How dare they go to an anime convention, go up to an anime voice actor, and then ask him to sign anime-related merchandise? The NERVE of these people!

My main concern was recording the sound properly, because this wasn’t the first time I’ve recorded these guys. Youmacon 2005 had decent video, but terrible audio. Had to get it right this time, and let’s just say that I’m so thankful that they were doing a concert again on Sunday, lol! Learned quickly what not to do!

Sunday afternoon Eyeshine concert.

After being incredibly tired Saturday, Sunday was a breeze. Although, it started early. I was told that a podcast had a panel and they were going to interview Johnny and the guys, so we went…at 9:30am. They started really late anyway, and the band didn’t get there until 10ish to do the interview, so it wasn’t so bad. Axelrod was there to be interviewed as well, so that was nice. The guys interviewing the guests were really…off though. I mean, they were ok, but it just seems as if they didn’t know what to ask, and even with the Eyeshine interview, they lucked into a really good story about Maurice (drummer) bleeding on the drums at one performance they did back in 2007. No seriously, Maurice was using someone else’s drum kit to play, cut himself while playing, and by the end of the set, there was blood all over the drum heads. Wonderful parting gift.

Then the encore concert came around, and was packed with people. Easily 3 times the size of the Saturday concert. The nice surprise was that one of the fans played with them on a track, and that was cool. I mean, if I got to jam with my favorite band, hello! Awesomeness!

The Ins and Outs of ADR Writing with Robert Axelrod.

Our last event was to catch a bit of the ADR Writing panel. It was cool because Axelrod was using Power Ranger examples to explain how an ADR script is written and what to look out for. It was informative! And any excuse for him to use the Lord Zedd voice is good times by me!

And that’s it! Thanks to Jessica for helping me out and taking most of the behind-the-scenes pictures, and thanks to the Zenkaikon staff. Footage of the convention is coming very soon. At least this’ll be something to tie you over with the lack of RPM episodes. Remember, if you’d like to see us cover more convention, feel free to donate! When I was in middle and high school, I lived in libraries. Not only because I had term papers to do, but because I grew to love them. So when I could find the time to procrastinate on a paper, I took that opportunity and ran with it. This find is the result of one of my procrastinating sessions. And while I don’t encourage such behavior, to this day, I’m glad I spent a good 2-3 hours on a computer looking up newspaper archives on Power Rangers.

Sometimes, in the afternoon, I am out in my cutting garden, musing over some dreamy puzzle of life such as: assign a hypothetical numerical value to the importance you place on your ability to control the “bad” things in your day and then another numerical value to the importance you place on doing work that is “useful” to others, and divide the sum by the percentage of time you feel bored.

But is it so wrong of me to want what 62 percent of allergic-to-shellfish Canadian women between the age of 52 and 58 responding to a survey in Wonderfully Complicated Woman magazine said they wanted: to lie back in bed with a younger man who has recently power- chopped vicious purple isotope-festooned iguanas into submission, to feast on his aluminum-tasting kisses while the afternoon light glinting off his space-age plastic helmet plays across the ceiling, to watch him subsequently touch the medallion covering his ripped, washboard abdominals and transform himself into a saber-toothed tiger who bounds out of the room to go fetch croissants and brie?

Because that’s what I want. At this passage, I am 130 percent more certain about 4/5 of the things that claimed 55 percent of my emotional life 8 to 12 years ago.

So I know that I want . . . oh . . . I want . . . oh! . . .

When Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was insanely huge, the ranger actors would make various appearances at malls, schools, television and radio interviews, etc. I’ve never felt so sorry for Jason David Frank than I do right now. I don’t know what’s worse, the ugly unitards or the fanny packs? Oh, and that black man is way too happy in the morning.

Jason David Frank Signs with SuckerPunch

Jason David Frank has just been signed by SuckerPunch Entertainment, so he will be in an Mixed Martial Arts cage fight pretty soon…after he heals from his injury. At Anime Festival Orlando, he mentioned being out of commission for the next 6 months because of a torn left bicep.

But you can read an interview with him over at the site. Here’s an excerpt:

JDF: There are many great martial arts out there. But when the time comes, the question is whether or not you can take care of yourself and your family on the streets. That’s the real test. Jute Keen Do is the way of the intercepting fists, focused more on defense. I wanted to cut out the stuff that doesn’t work. I was doing MMA, in essence, before MMA became big. MMA is the philosophy I had in 1994 when I invented [Toso] Kune Do. We were doing sprawl and brawl at that time, and I’m excited to see how my fighting art will do in competitive MMA.

[...] Jesus Didn’t Tap has been sold to our troops and all around the world. I’m donating it to a cause, to the army. I want to help them out. I have a couple more things in mind. I wanna do a lot of things, like women’s shirts for breast cancer. It’s a clothing line to help people out, not just to help me out. It’s helped me through all that I’ve been through in the past year and a half. Whether things are going good or things are going bad, it’s just what you gotta’ do. But I’m a warrior and a trooper and I work through it. There are a lot of things I want to do with it. It’s just a matter of time.

Really cool behind-the-scenes pictures have popped up from the shoot of the Masked Rider/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers crossover.

There’s also an interview with Peter Shinkoda (asian guy with long hair standing near Masked Rider guy) from Up & Comers, but honestly, it wasn’t a great interview (not Peter’s fault, of course). Peter did talk about the cast, so that’s always a plus!

The official Power Morphicon site is back up and with great news! The first (and only) Power Rangers convention is coming back in the Summer of 2010 in Los Angeles, and already has a pretty good guest list so far:

CHERYL SABAN

An acclaimed author, philanthropist and children’s advocate, Cheryl Saban was one of the earliest writers for Power Rangers, penning such classic episodes as Food Fight and Grumble Bee.

DOUGLAS SLOAN

Beginning his work for PR as Jason Frank’s acting coach, Doug Sloan charted a number of roles over the series including Kimberly’s Uncle Steve and Prince Gasket, as well as writing and directing several classic episodes before returning to helm PR’s first two seasons under Disney stewardship.

SCOTT PAGE-PAGTER

The man behind the mic for PR’s first ten seasons, Scott Page-Pagter was PR’s ADR director and coordinator as well as the voice of such memorable monsters as the Peckster, Pirantishead, and the indominable Porto.

RAJIA BAROUDI

Rajia is best known for her roles as Delphine, the White Aquitian Ranger in MMAR and PRZ as well as Jara on Big Bad Beetleborgs.

PAUL SCHRIER

Known most as the rotund half of Bulk and Skull, Paul played the role of Farkas Bulkmeier for 7 solid seasons, from MMPR, through PRZ, PRT, PRiS, PRLG, and not to mention both movies. He’s also the show’s first and only actor to also direct whole episodes of the series.

STEVE CARDENAS

Ow, his back! Steve has the distinction of being, as Rocky DeSantos, the second MMPR Red Ranger, the only PRZ Blue Ranger, and as the role of Rocko, the first Red Ranger of Earth. An accomplished martial artist, Steve especially loves pachinko, which is, as he refers to it, “Too fun!”

JASON DAVID FRANK

Over the course of two feature films and more than two hundred episodes, Jason Frank has played the longest tenured Ranger in series history, Dr. Tommy Oliver. For those unfamiliar with the character, welcome to Power Rangers!
