All of this is going to take $7000 to make a difference. Many people don’t know how much it costs to produce video, so I’m giving you the context now. Here are the items that we need:

I don’t know about you, but 1st grade was awesome. I made best friends there, who I fought and made up with all the time. My first grade teacher was great too. She taught us big vocabulary words and kept us current with the first Iraq war every morning. I cried a lot too. Sometimes for no good reason. When my 6-year-old self finally grew a pair, it was the best feeling to overcome all those nonsensical tears. First grade was a new start. A new beginning. A rude awakening. Pick yourself up, girl. This isn’t “nap time” anymore.

I say all of this because NPS is seeing its new beginning as well. I’m at a crossroads. It’s either get by with the resources I have now, or really invest into what can make NPS the best it can be. Obviously, the latter is more epic, so I’ll break it down for you as transparent as I can be. Have to get the bad news out of the way: We need equipment.

As you all may know, the NPS crew goes to different conventions around the country, films them, and edits them for online consumption. We help you by producing videos, you help us by watching and telling your friends. In 2010, we’ve been to 4 different conventions. In 2011 (not including NPS Live), 1. Why the decrease?

- Computers are dying. If I can’t run my normal editing programs, then there are no videos. This is the current problem, and this has been the problem for the past 2-3 years. I’ve been getting by by fixing things along the way, but I can only patch up so much.

- Software needs major upgrades. To make a long story short, new upgrades to my editing programs will make the editing process more efficient. More efficiency means faster production, and we all like fast things. Unfortunately, upgrades aren’t just chump change. They’re some real dollars and cents.

- We’re still in standard definition. The videos that you’ve seen have looked great because my current camera is a great SD camera, but it has kept us back from what I envision for NPS. With the bump to HD, I can produce better quality videos, and further down the line, produce an actual fan film. The thing is, there’s bad HD and good HD. Of course, we want the latter.

All of this is going to take $6500 to make a difference. Many people don’t know how much it costs to produce video, so I’m giving you the context now.

You must be asking, “What’s the good news?”

The good news is that I’m dead set on reaching that goal. I’m going to do everything I can to make it happen. If I have to go back to my high school roots and bake some brownies, then so be it. There will be an IndieGoGo fundraising page for NPS soon and yes, there will be perks for different donations.

Just to be clear, I’m not asking for a “free ride”. I’ve invested a lot in NPS thus far, so there’s nothing “free” around here, lol! Please know that I will be working hard to raise funds so that in the end, everyone can enjoy the results.

That Tuesday, I ran out of work to rush to the hospital that’s a good hour and change away. Finally get to the emergency room, and there’s where I stayed til the night. This would happen another 3-4 times during the month of May. No, I’m not sick. If I were, at least I’d know how to handle. At least I’d have some sort of control. At least I’m young and will be able to bounce back quickly.

I have a loved one this is not well at the moment, and I don’t know when they will get better. I know they will get better eventually, but all of my spare time is currently spent on them (as it should be). Thank goodness for neighbors and church family who have helped along the way, but my loved one only has me day in and day out.

Where does this leave No Pink Spandex? For now, things are going to be slow. I always think I can get 5 billion things done at the same time, but I’ve got to be realistic. Good news it that it won’t be totally dead around here. It’s been taking me a while to get adjusted to everything, so things will pick up again soon…just slowly.

Please keep me and my loved one in your prayers. It has been one of the toughest months for us, and I pray that things do get better. The great thing about this community is that when times are tough, people have your back. To the readers/listeners/viewers out there, thanks for being awesome.

1) More news. Since NPS is not going to be just a podcast anymore, I’ve decided to merge Ranger News into this site. You’ll see the results very soon!

2) More interviews. One is coming very very soon, and 3 are in queue. Can’t wait to release them!

3) More video. Some of you may know that I’m a videographer at heart, so I really want to get more video for this site, and not just interviews and covering conventions either. Fan films based on PR are popping up slowly, but I want to fully support even more. Maybe even create as well. That’s more of a long-term goal, but I’ll throw it in here because it needs to be stated.

Overall, I hope to make NPS your one-stop-shop for Power Rangers news: Audio. Video. Text. New motto, same good stuff.

1) More Youmacon coverage! I have a lot of video footage that can last for many, many podcasts. In addition, I interviewed Bruce Kalish (Exec. Producer of Power Rangers SPD), Christian band Eyeshine (with Johnny Yong Bosch as the lead singer), and Chris Violette (Sky, Blue Ranger of Power Rangers SPD). Also did a podcast with the RangerBoarders at Youmacon, so stay tuned!

2) NPS Frappred! I’d like to know whose listening to No Pink Spandex, so Frappr allows you to see whose listening and where they’re from! If you’re worried about people knowing where you live, don’t be. I put in my zip zode, and where Frappr points out my location is nowhere near where I live, lol! So I ask for your cooperation, as it is hard to really keep track of how many people listen to this podcast.

3) Your calls! Ok, maybe not “calls” as of yet, but if you have a microphone and install Gizmo (don’t worry, it’s free), then you can leave a voicemail message for No Pink Spandex and ask me anything! Yes, anything! Doesn’t have to be Power Ranger related, although that would be funnier, lol! So, I’d like to see how this would work out. If you feel anxious, you can leave a voicemail today (Gizmo name: nopinkspandex)! I’ll make an offcial announcement in the next podcast or the one after the Youmacon podcast.

4) The No Pink Spandex Website! This LJ isn’t going anywhere, but it is hard to play with the layout, so I’ll be making a new site for NPS along with the many ways that anyone can subscribe to the podcast. Be on the look for that, and tell all your friends :)

What is No Pink Spandex?

NPS is a podcast hosted by yours truly, Lisa J. I tend to talk to quite a few people online, and we discuss Power Rangers, but then expand onto other topics including (but not limited to) school, sports, movies, friends, and just life in general. The format of the show is usually: News, Power Ranger topic, and then free-for-all. I will also try to add exclusive PR stuff as much as possible, so I hope you like my new podcast.

How do I download the episodes?

Podcasting has made it easier to download episodes automatically through a podcasting client, i.e. iTunes. There are two ways to get the latest (and previous) episodes:

1) Download the latest version of iTunes (For Mac or Windows). Then, you’d add the URL http://feeds.feedburner.com/nps by clicking Advanced > Suscribe to Podcast. Then the podcast will show up in your list of podcast and will download episodes automatically!

2) Check out this site http://livejournal.com/users/nopinkspandex and Right Click + Save Target As on the episode link.

When will this air?

It’ll air at least once a week. You can add the feed url to your podcasting client or download manually from this site.
