Shout! Factory’s Gosei Sentai Dairanger DVD collection was the February 19, 2016 “Critic’s Pick” by contributor Robert Lloyd in the entertainment section of the Los Angeles Times.

The elements of Japan’s “Super Sentai” TV franchise are familiar, because we have long since seen them domestically repurposed as “The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.” There are color-coded masked and helmeted heroes skilled in balletic-gymnastic martial arts; giant sentient transforming mechanical animals; monsters who grow big and stomp around miniature landscapes like Godzilla before them. But the unaltered original item has a flavor of its own — at once more spiritual, if that’s quite the word, and more slapstick, more romantic and more comical.

First of all, the DVDs are stored in slots in the back of the helmet, separated into 10 tins. “The tins are going to look like the Power Coins,” Ward explained. “Each one of those tins will hold 10 discs.” And as an added bonus, “there are two empty slots for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. So if you have those discs from Fox, you can just slide them right in, and you’ve got the first 20 years’ worth of episodes, and the two movies right there in one helmet.” The black base, meanwhile, will house a hefty episode guide book, featuring trivia, photographs and artwork.

Sounds good until the kicker: limited run of 2000 copies worldwide. Price has yet to be announced, but knowing that there will be 98 discs for this collector’s item, the “2000 copies” may not be such a low run after all.

So when will Power Rangers Samurai start up again? According to Burgundy Ranger at Power Rangers On-Air Schedule, Samurai will be preempted until, at the very earliest, October 13th. If the season finale is suppose to premiere before December 4th, that’s not leaving a lot of weeks left for the show to air. I see a marathon of new episodes in the near future…

Power Rangers Samurai: The Team Unites (Volume One) and Power Rangers Samurai: A New Enemy (Volume 2) will be released on June 19, 2012 but you can pre-order them now on Amazon. Each volume will have 4 episodes each, and here’s the list of features (subject to change):

Last October we reported about a give-away promotional DVD that was available at the Disney Store chain, promoting ABC/Disney’s return of the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers episodes to the television broadcast lineup. This promo disc had some news with it, too, on the outer sleeve. [...]

So we’ve checked into it further, and found out a couple of things. First, and most importantly, Disney has passed along word to one of our contacts that these titles are “on hold”. That’s the exact phrase used, which could mean that they are simply delayed, or it could possibly mean that they won’t be happening at all; we haven’t gotten clear on that. Secondly, and also interesting, the gossip is that perhaps Amazon had no knowledge that their name would be invoked on the sleeve of that promotional disc; our contacts hint that no agreement had been made at that time for such an arrangement (we suppose that this could possibly be part of the reason ABC/Disney put the releases “on hold”).

In short, the DVDs are “on hold” and supposedly Amazon didn’t even know that they were going to be used in the promotional Disney DVD for the new line of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toys.

The movie will be available in Canada on November 3rd in stores and iTunes, and HMV is currently taking pre-orders. No word on when it will be available in the US, but info is coming soon.

Sorry for the late answer, I got the message today: Power Rangers Lost Galaxy DVD-set has NO english audio on it. I really don’t know exactly why, but there was a problem with Disney.

For those who may not know, he’s been working for CoK (the company who produces the boxed sets), so he would know for sure. Although, with so many audio problems and missing English tracks from episodes, I’m not surprised. Why is the Power Rangers archive of episodes treated as such in the first place? It’s getting unnerving.

If they go the route of Operation Overdrive last year, then we’ll be getting all the episodes in a span of 5 volumes. At least this is good news. I was getting worried that we haven’t heard anything about JF DVDs by now. Now if only they’d just retroactively give us all the Dino Thunder episodes…
